- 2 tablespoons active dry or instant yeast
- 3 1/2 teaspoons sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons fine salt
- 3 1/2 teaspoons vegetable oil
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine lukewarm water, yeast, and 1/2 teaspoon of sugar. Let sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- Stir in remaining sugar, salt, and vegetable oil.
- Gradually add flour one cup at a time until fully incorporated; mix for an additional 3-4 minutes until the dough is sticky.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for a couple of minutes; divide into four pieces.
- Shape each piece into balls and let rest under a towel for 15 minutes.
- Roll each ball into an 8×8-inch square; tightly roll from the edge closest to you to form logs, pinching seams.
- Roll each log to about 11-12 inches long and place on an ungreased baking sheet.
- Brush tops with water and let rise for 20-30 minutes until puffy.
- Preheat oven to 375°F while rolls rise.
- Brush again with water and sprinkle desired toppings before baking for about 18-22 minutes or until golden brown.
