Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup whole buttermilk
  • 3 cups bread flour (plus extra for rolling)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 tsp instant yeast
  • 2 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup dark brown sugar (for filling)
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar (for icing)
  • Fresh orange juice

Instructions

  1. Melt butter and combine with buttermilk in a bowl or stand mixer. Mix in sugar, salt, cardamom, nutmeg, yeast, eggs, and vanilla until well blended.
  2. Gradually add bread flour until a soft dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  3. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about an hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Prepare filling by mixing melted butter with brown sugar, cinnamon, and cardamom.
  5. Roll out dough into a rectangle about ¼-inch thick and spread filling evenly over it.
  6. Roll up tightly from one edge and cut into 12 equal pieces. Place rolls on a greased baking sheet lined with parchment paper and let rise again for 30-45 minutes.
  7. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Brush rolls with beaten egg and bake for about 20 minutes until golden brown.
  8. While baking, whisk together powdered sugar and orange juice to make the icing.
  9. Drizzle icing over warm rolls before serving.
