  • ⅓ cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon butter (melted) for glaze
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup for glaze
  • 1 tablespoon milk for glaze
  • ⅔ cup powdered sugar for glaze

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Grate cold butter into the dry mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in chopped pecans evenly.
  5. In another bowl, mix together sourdough starter, milk, and maple syrup.
  6. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture and gently stir until just combined.
  7. Transfer dough to a floured surface; shape into a circle about 9 inches wide.
  8. Cut into eight wedges and place on the baking sheet with space between them.
  9. Bake for 5 minutes at 425°F (then reduce to 375°F for an additional 10 minutes) until golden brown.
