  • 2/3 cup warm milk
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon canola oil
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/3 cup sunflower seeds
  • Optional: melted butter and additional sunflower seeds for topping

Instructions

  1. In a stand mixer bowl, combine warm milk, honey, sugar, salt, yeast, canola oil, and egg. Mix until blended.
  2. Gradually add all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, and sunflower seeds; mix until dough pulls away from the bowl.
  3. Transfer the dough to a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise for about 2 hours or until doubled in size.
  4. Shape the risen dough into an oval and place it in a greased loaf pan. Cover again to rise for another 30-40 minutes.
  5. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush the loaf with melted butter and sprinkle with sunflower seeds. Bake for 35-40 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Allow cooling on a rack before slicing.
